Good day everyone! I know there’s some fellas here who - like myself - were avid lifters in their younger days. As middle age approached, those 5 day splits turned into 3 day splits. Then - one day - you wake up and realize you haven’t been to the gym in a week, then a month. You swear you’ll get back on track….but it doesn’t happen.

Then, I wake up one particular morning with nothing but my thoughts. I do the math again…it’s been 4 years since my last workout. That # was embarrassing enough to get up off my ass and start again. Only now , I have a genuine excuse. I’m in a hospital room waiting to be taken to the ER for heart surgery. A million questions in my head.
- was is the 4 years of not working out & eating like shit for breakfast, lunch & dinner?
- was it just terrible lifestyle choices in general ? 7 years as a professional athlete…fuelled an appetite for alcohol & recreational drugs
- or was it the decision to keep up with the pack & use anabolic steroids & HGH throughout my career.

Who knows really? I’m happy to say, surgery & recovery went well. Today is the start of week 3 of workouts. Once I got over the initial shock of realizing Im weak as hell - the rest has been great. I’m hoping to find some quality information here. I remember hearing & reading lots of positive things about this website years ago. You don’t last this long without being one of the best at what you do.

Welcome aboard! I was in a similar spot minus the health scare. COVID and a divorce really put me off track but I'm 2 years back in the gym now and I feel great. It's hard mentally and physically at first lifting a fraction of what you used to but It will come back fast.

My advice would be take your time warming up, I find nagging injuries don't heal like they used to and set you back longer.
