  1. High-protein bedtime snacks no problem for active women

Physically active women who have foresworn bedtime snacks should feel no fear cracking open the cupboards after sundown for a protein-rich treat, according to new Florida State University-led research.

In a study of women weight lifters, nutrition scientists at FSU showed that protein consumption before bed compared to protein consumption during the day does not disturb overnight belly fat metabolism or whole-body fat burn.

The findings, published in the Journal of Nutrition, challenge widespread misconceptions about the relationship between nighttime eating, weight gain and metabolism, especially in women.

"For far too long, people have been led to believe that eating before bed causes metabolic disturbances and will make them gain fat," said study author Michael Ormsbee, an associate professor in the College of Human Sciences and the associate director of the FSU Institute of Sports Sciences & Medicine. "However, the data simply does not support this when the food we choose to eat before bed is protein-based and small in size."

While past research has uncovered substantial benefits of nighttime protein consumption, most existing work on the topic focuses exclusively on men. In this study, Ormsbee and his team used two experimental conditions to investigate fat metabolism in a sample of women weight trainers.

In one condition, the study participants drank a casein protein shake 30 minutes after a workout and a taste-matched placebo shake 30 minutes before bed. In the other condition, the participants drank the shakes in the reverse order.

"We wanted to investigate how drinking a protein shake before bed influenced overnight metabolism of fat in fit women as compared to taking that protein shake at another time of day," Ormsbee said.

Researchers then deployed a strategic measurement approach designed to comprehensively assess the full, multistep process of overnight fat metabolism. First, they documented participants' lipolysis -- or fat release from fat cells -- in order to determine whether the timing of protein consumption was linked to cells' ability to unleash stored fat into surrounding tissue.

Then, the team used breath sample measurements to evaluate participants' fat oxidation, or their bodies' capacity to burn the fat released as energy in the muscles.

Scientists have long known that protein consumption paired with exercise can help trigger the release of fat by cells, said study co-author and former FSU doctoral student Brittany Allman, who wrote her dissertation on this study. She and her partners were eager to identify whether, in an active resistance training population, there were any additive effects of protein consumption before bedtime -- a window of accelerated fat release.

The team's measurements revealed that, for women who lift weights, the well-known benefits of a nighttime, high-protein snack far outweigh the costs.

"In women who weight train, there are no differences in overnight local belly fat metabolism or whole-body fat burn whether you eat protein in the form of a protein shake during the day post-workout or at night presleep," said Allman, now a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the Arkansas Children's Nutrition Center. "So, essentially, you can eat protein before bed and not disturb fat metabolism."

Allman said she hopes this study and subsequent follow-up investigations will help demystify the science of women's nighttime eating and clear away harmful, unfounded beliefs.

"There are such bad misconceptions about eating at night, that it will 'make me gain weight' or 'slow my metabolism,'" she said. "The research suggests that really only holds true if you're eating a ton of calories and they are carbohydrate- and/or fat-laden. There are so many potential beneficial effects of eating protein at night, and it will be extremely important to take all of this science to the community to try to change the outlook of these dietary habits."

  2. Lol that sucks man, a peice of advice I received from an older gentleman on getting older was to “never trust a fart” lol!

but On a serious note I’m not sure what could be up, I’ve never experienced this other than when I changed up my diet and was doing a hardcore IF regime on a mega caloric deficit. It all started once I started eating normal again. The gas and pains and diarrhea was brutal!

  3. I too am guilty of trying some shit out when I was like 17-18. There was M1T and Andro floating around and some of the dudes from high school were using it so naturally I tried them both, I used up a whole bottle of the Andro, think there was around 50 pills and the M1T I stopped after a couple weeks cause of pains in my side, probably liver stress and I can imagine elevated liver markers. Didn’t even try test or any other stuff till much older, like around 28. To this day I think how stupid it was but It was only a bottle and a bit and who the fuck knows if it was even real, I was a bone rack and I don’t even remember any gains from either lol. I had bad puberty gyno just prior too and still have the lumps from that so not sure if the M1T/andro made it worse but lessons learned and shared.

Thanks man. I'm still getting to grasp how to use the site. Learning to post was even a struggle. I'll figure it out and have a search for handy tips 🤘🏼

For sure you’ll find pretty much everything you need. But again don’t be shy to ask for help if you do not find what you’re looking for

  5. Ever try ostarine? It’s excellent for being in a deficit while holding onto gains and actually achieving some. Ostarine is a great introduction into sarms. As you go up  I find LGD gets you a bloated look but you do gain size and a good amount of strength. Rad on the other hand is similar to lgd but with more of a dryer gain And vascularity. Good strength and pumps from both. But if you’re just looking to start why not dip your toes into an 8-10 week run of ostarine to see how it works. You may be surprised. Then eventually Try them all out it seems everyone has different reactions especially with mk677.

I can say honestly that my wife is better on it than not, in the winter, as she suffers from SAD. I'm currently on 10,000 IU full time and I have her on 4000/8000 summer/winter. There's no mistaking the positive impact in my eyes after being with her for 12 years now and having tons of time in to recollect and go by.

Anyone that knows me knows I'm a huge fan/follower of Dr Rand and he is very vocal about 10k IU/day ful time, and especially if running gear. Thats good enough for me and given how cheap it is....

@BobTheOldLifter Out of curiosity what marker are you watching? Total?

Right on I’ve never heard of Dr. Rand. I’ll have to look him up. I’ve researched tones of stuff in D3 and dosing but haven’t came across him before. Does he have any good articles you can link me too? Or where do I read his stuff? Thanks

Not sure what kind of greasy guy would sell gear to an 18yr old. I would listen to the guys on here and wait it out a couple more years before you add the test and HCG. Your body is a machine right now and you don't need to mess with your hormones.

    I forgot to mention.

I take just the bare min of Niacin as no matter what brand or type I can't escape the flush and I hate it, even all of the non flush ones I react to so what can ya do. Resveratrol I used to take but then I read a couple of studies about brain atrophy and although likley not a concern for healthy sorts with my health issues and the related cognitive impact I thought it best to forgo. Just something to think about for anyone with similar issues.

I want to add K2 as I really should and somehow really sort of missed the benefits until recently. If you have a brand that you have had good luck with please point me at it as it always takes more time researching that part to make sure you get a quality supp!

    thanks mate.

I’ve been taking this brand of K2 for the past couple years. Best one out there

    CanPrev D3 1000IU and K2 120mcg,... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00PUX1LXC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

That is very nice to hear and thank you for saying so. We work in the medical field and use the exact same procedures. We utilize guidance documents provided by Canadian government in all aspects of packing, production and inventory/distribution practices. It is our hope this offers clients with the safest option.

For example our labeling adheres to the following document:
    https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/drugs-health-products/drug-products/applications-submissions/guidance-documents/labelling-pharmaceutical-drugs-human-use-2014-guidance-document.html

Very impressive for sure. You guys definitely mean business!

  10. @CapeBretonDadBod well said on those points. The op isn’t going to get much support, if any here to start a cycle at 18 years old lol. He does have it well planned out but he can further his research and use that knowledge in the future if he decides to go that route. It’s not the fact that one basic Test only cycle will mess him up. That is not true. At his age he’ll more than likely bounce back. But, It’s the fact that he’ll see the gains and it’ll get addicting and he’ll always want more. This is what he has to understand. Once down the dark path of aas it’s hard to break free. A simple test cycle will be the start, then he’ll venture into more hardcore cycles, it always happens, just the nature of this game!  Like you said also if he wants kids he can pretty much kiss that good bye. I have a buddy who started the gear at 19, got married a few years later. His wife wanted kids. Well that didn’t happen because of his use from an early age and they are now divorced and he can’t have kids due to being permanently shut down. It’s not just the Long term physical part of being in gear but also the mental. Gotta think ahead but unfortunately when your 18 that is not in sight.
